Thursday Soapbox: Getting on a Soapbox!

What makes thirty young adults gather at a university campus on a Friday evening? The promise of engaging conversation and encouraging formation, of course.
Recently Catholic Youth Parramatta (CYP) and Campus Ministry at Australian Catholic University (ACU) began this year’s season of young adult formation, open to all. Following some getting to know you activities and music, the keynote presenter and animator was Fr Christopher del Rosario from the Parramatta Cathedral parish who is also the Director of Priestly Vocations for the diocese.
He expertly opened up topics around meaning and purpose, encouraging those present to understand their Christian lives of service calling for a “service of unyielding love”, and encouraged an environment of questioning and healthy discussion. He called the young adults present to truly live in the moment whilst keeping their hearts fixed on Jesus, allowing their virtue to shine for all to see. He reminded them that “a fundamental truth of what it means to be a Catholic and Christian is being a saint of today, not tomorrow”.
These evenings are great opportunities for social interaction and some catechetical formation as well as encouragement for living the Christian life with joy and purpose. ACU is proud to collaborate with the diocese and is growing its relationship with CYP as the university establishes itself in the centre of the diocese, right near Blacktown train station.
